In recognition of top students interested in the field of interactive marketing to help fund their education
Deadline for 2010 Applications Was April 30th, 2010
The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) Scholarship Program awards scholarships on a competitive basis to students who show a commitment to pursuing careers in direct/interactive marketing.
The program is an opportunity for top students interested in the field of direct/interactive marketing to receive financial aid to fund their education. The value of the scholarship(s) will vary in the range of $1,000 – $3,000. Values of the scholarships are dependent upon the donor of the scholarship.
All applicants must submit a scholarship application. Students must be planning to enroll in classes in the 2010 fall semester.
Eligibility Requirements
What are the eligibility requirements to apply for a Direct Marketing Educational Foundation Scholarship?
- Reside in the U.S. as a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Full time enrollment in an accredited 4-year undergraduate institution or a graduate student.
- Undergraduates must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in your major, and a 3.0 overall.
- Show a commitment to pursuing a career in direct/interactive marketing (i.e. applicants should have taken two or more courses focused on: direct marketing, interactive marketing, email marketing, electronic marketing, mobile marketing, social marketing, business to business marketing, not for profit marketing, database marketing, customer relationship marketing or integrated marketing communications). Students with internships focused in these areas will also be considered.
- Demonstrate leadership ability.
- Be involved in extracurricular and/or community service activities.

Frequently Asked Questions
I am graduating, but I plan to attend graduate school. Am I eligible to apply for a scholarship?
You must be currently enrolled in a graduate program to be eligible for any scholarship targeting graduate students.
When will notification be sent out to scholarship winners?
All scholarship awards will be announced and disbursed before July 30, 2010.
When will my scholarship award and/or check be mailed?
Scholarship award checks will be paid in the recipient’s name directly to the student’s college or university tuition account.
Can the scholarship award or check be mailed to me personally?
No. These are tuition checks and will be forwarded directly to your school’s bursar or finance office to be applied to your tuition account.

Scholarship Funds
- Lee Epstein Fund – These scholarships were established in honor of Lee Epstein, founder of the non-profit Direct Marketers Gateway, Inc. and a lifelong supporter of direct marketing educational programs. Each year, DMEF awards numerous scholarships to deserving undergraduate students in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
- Mike Buoncristiano Memorial Fund – Established in memory of Mike Buoncristiano, a past president of the Direct Marketing Club of New York and recipient of the Club’s Silver Apple Award. Each year, DMEF awards scholarships to deserving full-time undergraduate students.
- Dave Florence Fund – Created by the employees, colleagues and clients of Direct Media Inc. to honor the induction of the company's Chairman Dave Florence into the Direct Marketing Association Hall of Fame. Each year, DMEF awards scholarships to deserving full-time undergraduate students.
- Willa Yeck Memorial Fund – Established in memory of the wife of John Yeck, one of the founders of Direct Marketing Educational Foundation. Each year, DMEF awards scholarships to deserving full-time undergraduate students.
- Lorraine Zitone Memorial Fund – Established in memory of Lorraine Zitone, a 21-year loyal employee of the Direct Marketing Association. Each year, DMEF awards one scholarship to a deserving part-time or full-time undergraduate student in the New York area. Support from the DMA’s Committee of Retired Directors contributed a portion of this Memorial Fund annually.
- Don Kuhn Memorial Fund – Established in 2006 in honor of the late, direct-response fundraising pioneer, Don Kuhn, to commemorate his contributions to the practice of charitable fundraising. DMEF awards this scholarship to a deserving graduate student with a demonstrated commitment to pursue a career in non-profit direct/interactive marketing.
Applications for Direct Marketing Education Foundation (DMEF) Scholarships are accepted from January to May. The current application deadline is April 30, 2010. All applicants must submit a scholarship application. Students must be planning to enroll in classes in the 2010 Fall semester. Graduating seniors are not eligible.
